Baccarat

Overview

In baccarat you do not play your own hand: you bet on which hand will come closest to 9, “Player” or “Banker”, or on a tie. Cards are drawn according to fixed rules, with no decisions to make during the round.

Only the last digit counts: a 7 and an 8 make 15, so 5. Face cards and tens count as zero. Chemin de fer is a historic variant of the same game.

Rules and how it works

• Bet on Player, Banker or Tie before the deal.
• Each hand gets two cards; a third may be drawn according to a fixed chart.
• The hand closest to 9 wins.
• Winning Banker bets usually carry a commission; a tie pays more but rarely happens.

Minimum age

In Québec, buying lottery tickets and taking part in games of chance is restricted to people 18 and over.
